The sculpture series O le Saosao Lapo’a (Barracuda) and Asiasi (Thunnus Albacares or Yellowfin Tuna) reflects rather ironically on the irreversible impact of colonisation on indigenous culture. Neither O le Saosao Lapo’a or Asiasi I are static sculptural artworks as he expands their presence, dynamically choreographed into his live performance artworks such as: O le Vasa ma le Loloto - The Wide and Deep Ocean. Michel widens his enquiry as he engages the audience into the strands of island life – paradise or paradise lost.
O le Saosao Lapo’a (Barracuda) and Asiasi I (Thunnus Albacares or Yellowfin Tuna) are held in the Auckland Museum Permanent Collection.
